Children and Accidents...

With many children about to start school this September, many parents must be worrying about accidents and incidents happening when their child is in an unfamiliar surrounding.

Accidents are pretty common at school, what with children tearing round the playground and trying out new and different things. When you go to look round a school as a potential place of learning for your child, it's important to check safeguarding to make sure that everything is in place to make it as safe as possible. It is the legal responsibility of the school to ensure all children are safeguarded and there are simple things to look for as a parent to make sure this is being taken seriously. When you go to look round, are the gates secure? Can you see any possible hazards in the playground? Are there any steep drops or danger zones?

When the children go out on school trips there should also be risk assessments in place which all staff have access to which should cover any possible dangers. Thing is though, with kids, accidents happen sometimes, taking calculated risks and learning how to deal with the consequences is all part of life.
